IUPUC Vice Chancellor and Dean appointed

IUPUI Chancellor Charles R. Bantz has announced the appointment of Marwan A. Wafa, dean of the College of Business and Management at Saginaw Valley State University, as Vice Chancellor and Dean of IUPUC, pending approval by the IU Board of Trustees.

 

Dr. Wafa will join the campus in early September. He succeeds Jay Howard, who has served as an interim Vice Chancellor and Dean at IUPUC.

 

"Dr. Wafa brings experience as a dean of business at two universities, a background in engineering, and a commitment to continuing the Columbus tradition of collaboration. Dr. Wafa has the right blend of skills, experience, and leadership that will advance IUPUC and benefit the community,” Bantz said.

 

"My thanks to Jay Howard for his academic and administrative leadership and service. Jay will continue making contributions to IUPUC as he returns to an active scholarly career that includes teaching and to his position of as head of the Division of Liberal Arts," Bantz said.

 

Wafa was dean of the College of Business and Management at Saginaw Valley State University in Saginaw, Michigan since 2005. Previously, he was dean of the School of Business & Technology at University of Wisconsin-Parkside from 2000 to 2005.

 

Moving to Columbus from Michigan marks a return to Indiana for Wafa, who served for 14 years , in several capacities at the University of Southern Indiana, including associate dean and director of the MBA program at the School of Business from 1998 to 2000; chair of the Department of Management and Marketing from 1994 to 1998; and acting chair of the Department of Administrative, Decision Sciences, and Business Education from 1990 to 1991.

 

Wafa received his Ph.D in Industrial Management from Clemson University in 1986, a masters in Management from Clemson University in 1983 and a bachelor’s in Civil Engineering from Kuwait University in 1980.
