Education professor attends national conference

Columbus, IN – IUPUC faculty member Kate Baird, Ph.D., recently attended the National Science Teachers Association Congress on Science Education in Miami, Fla.

The annual meeting brings together NSTA members to discuss issues and bring forth recommendations that may be of interest to NSTA and the science education community.

Issues discussed at this year’s meeting included placement and retention of quality science education teachers, supporting science leaders, meeting the needs of diverse learners, support systems for science teachers, optimizing science in elementary grades, and K-8 integration of science and mathematics. 

Baird represented District X, which includes Indiana, Ohio and Michigan. She participated in resolution writing and was elected to the 2010 Congress planning committee.

Baird is a clinical assistant professor of science education in the IU School of Education at IUPUC.
