August 28, 2009

Columbus, IN – The Columbus Center for Teaching and Learning will host its first annual regional summit “Improving College Student Success” from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, October 9. As a regional summit, personnel from colleges and universities from 10 states have been invited.

The focus of the summit is on best practices for improving college student success.

“We think it is very timely to discuss the trends in education and society,” said CTL Director Darrin Sorrells, Ph.D. “We will be discussing how to make the overall experience more meaningful for students and how to help them in a variety of areas.”

The summit’s keynote speaker will be Elizabeth Harrison, Ph.D., Director of Student Learning Services at the Ryan C. Harris Learning Teaching Center at the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio. Harrison’s presentation, entitled “Accessible Learning by Design,” will focus on universal design for learning concepts and techniques. Harrison is nationally known for her scholarship on Universal Design and its application to learning.

Several IUPUC, Ivy Tech, and Purdue College of Technology faculty and staff members also will lead breakout sessions throughout the day.

The summit is open to faculty and staff at any college or university. The cost is $85 per person before September 8 and $95 per person after September 8.  The price includes lunch and registration materials.
