Liberal arts head presents at annual meeting

IUPUC faculty member Jay Howard, Ph.D., recently presented the Hans O. Mauksch Address at the American Sociological Association annual meeting in San Francisco.

The 2008 recipient of the Hans O. Mauksch Award for Distinguished Contributions to Undergraduate Sociology, Howard presented “Where Are We and How Did We Get Here? A Brief Examination of the Past, Present, and Future of the Teaching and Learning Movement in Sociology.” Howard’s address will be published in the ASA journal Teaching Sociology.

At the ASA Section on Teaching and Learning in Sociology Preconference Workshop for New Sociology Instructors, Howard led a concurrent roundtable session entitled, “Enhancing Student Participation.”

Howard also co-led with Dr. Nancy Greenwood, from Indiana University Kokomo, a teaching workshop on “Teaching Introductory Sociology for the First Time.”

Howard is a professor of sociology and head of the Division of Liberal Arts at IUPUC.
