IUPUC welcomes new director of Center for Teaching and Learning
Columbus, IN – Darrin Sorrells, Ph.D., recently joined the staff of Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus as director of the Center for Teaching and Learning.
His responsibilities include providing leadership, organizational management, fiscal management, and programming design and integration of all aspects of the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL). He will serve as the senior catalyst for developing a responsive and innovative infrastructure to provide opportunities, resources, and services for improving teaching and learning in both the K-12 and postsecondary institutions in the Columbus area.
Sorrells earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English education from Oakland City University. He earned a master’s degree in education from Indiana Wesleyan University and a doctorate in psychology from Northcentral University.
Before accepting his position at IUPUC, Sorrells was the assistant dean of the Student Academic Success Center at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. In that role he managed the operations of all units of the Student Academic Success Center including the University Tutoring Services, the Math Learning Center, the Writing Center, and Developmental Education. Prior to his time at Wright State, Dr. Sorrells served in several capacities at Oakland City University (Oakland City, IN) including academic advisor, faculty member, and Dean of the School of Business.
Sorrells is an experienced junior/senior high school teacher and has published works in the Journal of Instructional Psychology and the College Student Journal. He is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, and Phi Delta Kappa International Professional Fraternity for Educators.
