Science head serves as chair at international fair
IUPUC faculty member James Clack, Ph.D., served as a chair at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair May 8 through 15 in San Jose, Calif.
Clack served as chair of the Cell and Molecular Biology section of the competition.
The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair is the world’s largest pre-college science competition. More than 1,600 high school students from 59 countries, regions and territories showcased cutting-edge research and inventions, and competed for international recognition and more than $4 million in prizes.
Finalists’ projects tackled challenging scientific questions that address some of today’s most pressing global issues. Projects represented a wide range of scientific disciplines, and were judged in categories which included animal sciences, biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology, engineering, microbiology and physics and astronomy.
“The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair provides the world’s most talented young researchers with the opportunity to come together and showcase the quality and depth of their scientific discovery on the global stage,” said Elizabeth Marincola, president of Society for Science & the Public. “We are confident that this program, now in its 61st year, will continue to inspire young people from around the world to pursue their curiosities.”
Clack is an associate professor of Biology and head of the Division of Science at IUPUC.
