Associate librarian presents at IU Librarians' Day

June 18, 2010

Emily Dill, associate librarian at the University Library, will present at the Indiana University Librarians’ Day on Friday, June 18, in Indianapolis.

Dill’s presentation, “Clickers and Library Instruction,” will report the results of a study that assessed the effect of clickers on the retention of library instruction material. Clickers are small hand‐held devices that allow students to interact with the instructor and their classmates.

Through a series of answer buttons, clickers enable students to register responses to questions posed by instructors or let instructors know when they are confused by material. This session will demonstrate possible uses of clickers in library instruction and discuss best practices gleaned from this study and the literature.

“My study found that the use of clickers in library instruction sessions did not increase short-term recall of the information presented during the session,” Dill said.

The purpose of Librarians’ Day is to provide a forum for discussion of current topics and interaction among IU Librarians.
