Former professor releases 'Life Lessons' book

August 3, 2010

Retired IUPUC faculty member Judy Spector, Ph.D., recently released her book The Fairy Godmentor’s Advice for Women Like Us: Life Lessons from Educated Women.

The 140-page book was published by Author House and is available at www.amazon.com.

The book is a collection of short fairy tales written by Spector and other academic women.

“I assembled the book to pass along some ‘life lessons’ women would learn if they had fairy godmentors,” said Spector, who retired in 2009. “The book explores the social, intellectual, and emotional tensions within and around which women create their identities, and it is intended to be entertaining as well as instructive.”

Stories in the book include “Beauty and the Nature of the Beast,” “Goldilocks Has it With Bears,” and “Through (With) the Looking Glass.”

Spector retired as head of the Division of Liberal Arts in 2009 after 32 years at IUPUC where she also served as a professor of English.
