School of Nursing to offer 12-month RN to BSN program

August 4, 2010

IUPUC is part of a new consortium consisting of the eight Indiana University School of Nursing campuses across the state of Indiana ensures registered nurses everywhere can earn a bachelor’s degree in 12 months. The distance accessible program delivers quality, convenient, cost-effective and contemporary on-line RN to BSN education which meets the nursing workforce needs of Indiana.

The consortium, the first of its kind for Indiana University, helps nurses with two-year degrees move quickly and easily through a bachelor’s program. In addition to IUPUC, the consortium is composed of Schools of Nursing on the South Bend, Northwest, Kokomo, IUPUI, East, Bloomington and Southeast campuses. Students enter the RN to BSN program at the IU campus closest to them, and then tie into the on-line state-wide network to complete their coursework and practicum experiences.

“This is a great opportunity for working RNs who want to earn a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing degree. The courses are delivered online in condensed, eight-week learning modules, which means students can continue to work and fit the classes into their schedule,” said Beth Sharer (DHA, NEA-BC, RN) IU School of Nursing at IUPUC interim division head. “And as always, if students want to talk to an IUPUC nursing faculty or advisor, we maintain an open-door policy for students whether the ‘door’ is on-line, on-the-phone, or on-campus.”

With healthcare facilities across the state of Indiana focused on providing safe, quality care in an environment of constant change, bachelor’s prepared nurses are in even greater demand.

Main components of the RN to BSN Program include a rolling admissions process so students can start any time they are ready and complete nursing specific courses in 12 months. Indiana University faculty are recognized nationwide for their leadership and expertise in teaching and scientific research. Nurses in the program can reach these award-winning faculty from their own computers and bring that knowledge directly to their patients.
