Retired division head saluted for vision and dedication

September 14, 2010

The IUPUC Business Advisory Council recently created a student award to honor retired Division of Business Head Georgia B. Miller.

The Georgia Blair Miller Business Student Award will be given each year to a graduating business student with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and a demonstrated commitment to community through civic engagement where learning and strategic systems have been applied.

The winner will be selected by a committee made up of IUPUC Division of Business faculty members and will receive $600. The award is a permanent endowment.

“Creating this award was a wonderful way to recognize the tremendous contributions Georgia has made to both the IUPUC and Columbus communities. Her leadership was instrumental in establishing the IUPUC MBA program, a top notch program much needed by our community to attract and retain the professional talent we need for long term economic growth,” said Lynne Maguire, vice president of marketing and chief strategy officer for Columbus Regional Hospital. “Georgia is smart, professional, community-minded and a role-model for her students. Plus she’s great fun to work with! We were so pleased to be able to memorialize her contributions in this way.”

Miller was named head of the IUPUC Division of Business in 2001, and was charged with developing the undergraduate business and master of business administration degree programs.

Miller worked with the dean of the Indiana University Kelley School of Business in Bloomington and numerous Columbus business leaders to build a program that met the needs of the region.

At the end of the 2009/2010 academic year, Miller stepped down as head of the Division of Business. She remains at IUPUC, however, as the special assistant to the vice chancellor for academic affairs and executive director of executive education.

“Georgia Miller brought to IUPUC a vision and determination which was greatly needed in this community. Her relentless pursuit of a business program for the needs of Bartholomew and surrounding counties brought not only a successful program, but also a talent pool of students with skill and drive to improve their contributions to local businesses,” said Tina Vujovich, retired vice president of marketing and environmental policy for Cummins. “We have a lot to thank Georgia Miller for, but certainly the strong foundation for a solid business program at IUPUC.”
