IUPUC to dedicate latest sculpture

September 27, 2010

IUPUC will host a dedication ceremony for its latest permanent sculpture on Friday, November 12.

The ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. on the front lawn at IUPUC. Refreshments will be served. The public is encouraged to attend.

The sculpture, “Transformations,” is the centerpiece of the Reeves Plaza and IUPUC’s new front door. It consists of a 30-foot tall stainless steel frame and three panes of lighted glass. The arced wall of the plaza includes an inscription of a quote from Benjamin Disraeli (British Prime Minister, 1868, 1874-1880) from which Meehan took inspiration: “A University should be a place of light, of liberty, and of learning.”

The plaza was made possible by a significant gift from the Carl M. Reeves and Mildred A. Reeves Foundation.

Meehan said the three panes of glass represent light, liberty and learning, and also the collaboration between IUPUC, Ivy Tech Community College and the city of Columbus.

IUPUC receives support for higher education initiatives from many generous and forward thinking individuals and organizations. Please contact Stacy Zearing, Director, Office of Development and External Affairs, to discuss your interest in supporting higher education in our community.
