IUPUC Alumni Association to co-host Economic Outlook Breakfast

The IUPUC Alumni Association and the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce will co-host the annual Economic Outlook Breakfast.

The breakfast, a collaboration between the IUPUC Alumni Association, IU Kelley School of Business and Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce, will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, November 5, at Yes Cinema in downtown Columbus.

The cost is $15 for IUPUC Alumni Association and Columbus Area Chamber members and $25 for the public. Registration is required by Wednesday, October 27, by visiting www.columbusareachamber.com/events.

At the breakfast, Indiana University Kelley School of Business economists will give their best predictions for the national, state, and local economies.
Panelists will include Ellie Mafi-Kreft (Ph.D.), Chuck Trzcinka (Ph.D.), Tim Slaper (Ph.D.) and Michael Oakes.

Mafi-Kreft, clinical assistant professor of business for the Kelley School of Business, will present the global and U.S. forecasts. Mafi-Kreft’s professional interests include international financial institutions, monetary policy, and the European Monetary Union.

Trzcinka, James and Virginia Cozad Professor of Finance for the Kelley School of Business, will present the forecast for financial markets.
 
Slaper, director of economic analysis for the Indiana Business Research Center, will present Indiana’s forecast. Slaper’s professional background includes work in researching topics such as the effect of high energy prices on economic output and the effectiveness of investment incentives in encouraging economic growth.

The Indiana Business Research Center, a unit in the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, provides and interprets the economic information needed by the state’s business, government and nonprofit organizations, as well as users of such information throughout the nation. The IBRC maintains databases on numerous topics such as income, employment, taxes, sectors of the economy, education, demographics and a host of other economic indicators for the nation, the state and local areas.

Oakes, interim head of the IUPUC Division of Business, will present the local forecast. Oakes earned his Master of Business Administration degree in applied economics and finance from the William E. Simon School of Business, University of Rochester, Rochester, NY.

Event moderator will be Tom Clerkin (Ph.D.), assistant professor of business for the IUPUC Division of Business.
