Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. recognition event

Bridging the Educational… Divide in recognition of the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will take place on Monday, January 17 from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A community breakfast accompanied by the presentation of the 2011 IUPUC Excellence in Diversity Awards will be at Columbus East High School from 7:30 to 9 a.m.

Keynote speaker at Columbus East High School will be IUPUC Vice Chancellor and Dean, Dr. Marwan Wafa.

IUPUC will annually recognize one campus initiative and one community initiative that has demonstrated commitment and outstanding efforts toward creating a diverse and inclusive community.

Educational sessions at the Columbus Learning Center will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. IUPUC Vice Chancellor and Dean, Dr. Marwan Wafa and Chancellor of the Ivy Tech Community College, Dr. John Hogan, will be welcoming the community to this event.

A fellowship luncheon sponsored by Healthy Communities will start at 11:30 a.m.

To finish the event, a service opportunity fair will take place at the Columbus Learning Center from 12 to 2 p.m. and will be sponsored by United Way Volunteer Action Center.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a canned food item to donate to Love Chapel.

Bridging the Educational… Divide is presented by Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation, Community Education Coalition, IUPUC, Ivy Tech Community College, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, The Center for Teaching and Learning, and United Way of Bartholomew County.

The event is free and open to the public.
