Anonymous Donor Gives $50,000 to Benefit Division of Liberal Arts

May 1, 2012
An anonymous donor has given a $50,000 term life insurance policy to the Division of Liberal Arts at Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus (IUPUC).  The funds will be paid by the insurance company upon the donor’s death.

According to Stacy Zearing, director of development for IUPUC, the future gift may be used for whatever the university determines is the greatest need by the Division of Liberal Arts, such as scholarships, faculty research, or bringing distinguished guest speakers to campus.

“This donor recognized a significant need for private support within the Division of Liberal Arts relative to the other divisions at IUPUC. The individual is interested in inspiring other donors who also value liberal arts and education to invest in IUPUC,” Zearing reported.

Dr. Andrae Marak, head of the university’s liberal arts program, thanks the donor on behalf of the students, faculty, and staff. “By making this donation, the donor is publically recognizing that the liberal arts play an integral role in  producing competent, motivated graduates. The gift is also responsive to the university’s mission to serve as a local and regional leader that meets the needs of learners, employers, and communities. In due time, his or her generous donation will help us educate well-rounded citizens who are prepared for leadership roles in a world that grows more globalized and interconnected every day.”

IUPUC serves a mix of traditional and nontraditional students of all ages and backgrounds. More than 96 percent are undergraduate students and more than 99 percent are Indiana residents.

Nearly 40 percent of IUPUC undergraduates are 25 or older. Among undergraduate students, 69 percent are females and 31 percent are males. Among graduate students, 58 percent are male and 42 percent are female. The university was established in 1970 and serves nearly 1,700 students each year.
