18 Students Receive Donor-Funded Scholarships for 2013-14

Each year, Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus (IUPUC) awards a number of donor-funded scholarships to deserving students who are pursuing bachelor’s degrees in a number of fields.

This year is no exception. Thanks to generous support from a number of local and regional corporations, businesses, civic groups, alumni, private citizens, and others who believe in the importance of higher education, 18 IUPUC students will receive scholarships for the 2013-14 academic year.  

These donors collectively provided $16,000 towards the education of IUPUC student recipients listed below, along with their hometowns and academic majors:

BLUE & COMPANY SCHOLARSHIP: $500

INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTANTS SCHOLARSHIP: $1,000

  • Courtney Linville (Franklin, IN) | Finance/management     

IUPUC ALUMNI ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP: $1,000

  • Kelly Lewis (Columbus, IN) | Elementary education
  • Jayson Purdy (Osgood, IN) | Business             

IUPUC SCHOLARSHIP: $1,000

  • Jess Smith (Columbus, IN) | Psychology
  • Kayla Schmidt (Morriston, IN) | Elementary education
  • Jacqueline Shumard (Seymour, IN) | Nursing
  • Cassandra Pendleton (Edinburgh, IN) | Elementary education   
  • Joshua Shafer (Vernon, IN) | Sociology

MARVIN RYTTING SCHOLARSHIP: $1,000

KRISTEN SCHILDMIER SCHOLARSHIP: $1,000

  • Theresa Hickey (Columbus, IN) | Accounting         

VUJOVICH SCHOLARSHIP IN ENGINEERING: Up to $5,000       

  • Karen Hislope (Columbus, IN) | Engineering         

WAFA FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP: $1,000            

  • Courtney Seiwart (Columbus, IN) | Communication studies         

ZONTA CLUB SCHOLARSHIP: $500

  • Jessie Browne (Columbus, IN) |  Environmental health sciences

Students who are awarded donor-funded IUPUC scholarships must meet specific eligibility criteria related to academic performance, major area of study, and grade point averages.

According to Dr. Marwan Wafa, vice chancellor and dean, donors like these help IUPUC keep tuition affordable. “Gifts from the private sector are vital for our continued growth and development,” he said. “We are grateful to our many friends and partners who choose to invest in higher education, where they make a lasting difference in the lives of IUPUC students.”
