Undergraduate classes discounted by 25 percent for third consecutive summer

February 27, 2014

Undergraduate students who are Indiana residents can once again take advantage of a 25 percent tuition discount on summer classes at Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus (IUPUC).

The discount applies both to online and traditional undergraduate classes offered during two summer sessions.

  • Summer Session I: Classes begin May 14 and continue through June 25.
  • Summer Session II: Classes begin June 30 and continue through August 11

Current IUPUC students can begin registering for summer classes on March 24. Other students can begin registering for classes on March 29.

According to Dr. Mark Volpatti, executive director of administration and finance at IUPUC, undergraduate students from other institutions who live in the Columbus area during the summer can also take classes at IUPUC. The IU credits they earn in Columbus will transfer back to their home schools.

“Providing students with a good educational value—while at the same time helping them understand the benefits of earning undergraduate degrees in four years—are key components of our enrollment management plan,” Volpatti noted.

“Taking summer courses helps many students stay on track to graduate in four years. And, by graduating on time, they are better able to keep their loan debt to a minimum and pursue full-time employment more quickly,” he explained.

IUPUC has offered discounted summer classes since 2012. Between the discount and a public information campaign to inform students and the public about the benefits of summer classes, IUPUC saw summer enrollments rise 6.6 percent in 2012 and 11.5 percent in 2013, which was the largest increase since 2005.

Volpatti, who said IUPUC will promote the discount through its Web site, social media outlets, and advertising, said the university is hoping for strong summer enrollments again this year.
