Professional development series begins with two workshops on May 9

Working adults who seek noncredit management training opportunities are invited to register for two upcoming workshops offered by the Center for Business and Economic Development (CBED) at Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus (IUPUC).

Both of the three-hour courses are appropriate for business executives, human resource specialists, front-line managers, and team leaders in a variety of workplace settings, including nonprofit organizations, municipal government, small businesses, and large advanced manufacturing enterprises, says Greg Knudson, CBED director.

“We offer courses like these based on strong demand expressed by businesses and organizations throughout the region,” Knudson reported, noting that although the May courses will be held on the university’s Columbus campus, noncredit courses and training can also be delivered in company workplaces.

MANAGING TEAMS FOR HIGH PERFORMANCE
Friday, May 9, 2014 | 9 a.m. until noon

  • This course will focus on aspects and attributes of effective management in a team environment. It will provide attendees with the framework and models to build high-performance teams, reinforce shared values, and increase participation, collaboration, and productivity among all team members. Participants will be well-grounded with key tools for managing teams effectively.

MANAGING CONFLICT IN THE WORKPLACE
Friday, May 9, 2014 | 1 to 4 p.m.

  • Attendees will learn management methods, strategies, and models to proactively and effectively manage disagreements encountered in management and leadership positions. With more than 40 percent of management time spent on dealing with interpersonal workplace conflict, this is a significant topic for every organization.

The cost for each course is $125. A 20 percent discount is available when three or more individuals from the same organization register.

The courses will be held in CC Room 176, located in the Arvin Center for Graduate Business Education at 4601 Central Avenue near Columbus Municipal Airport.
