September 5, 2014

Two non-credit workshops on health and safety will be offered by the Center for Business and Economic Development (CBED) at Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus (IUPUC) on Thursday, October 2.

Developing a Safety Management Program for your Workplace
Thursday, October 2 // 9 a.m. to noon

A proactive safety management program is the foundation of success in keeping workplaces safe. Written safety policies provide clear guidelines to employees of all levels of the organization and ensure continuity in the event of employee turnover. This workshop reviews key elements of a proactive safety management program which you can easily implement in your own workplace. Participants will:

  • Understand the core elements of effective safety programs
  • Know how to write an occupational health and safety policy
  • Use the information provided as a framework for establishing a safety management program in your workplace

Creating a Positive Safety Culture
Thursday, October 2 // 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Developing a state and federal compliant culture of organizational safety can be a challenge in many organizations. Companies must rely on sound decision-making by their representatives to ensure safety regulations are amenable and managed properly. This workshop outlines key factors relevant in developing an effective culture of workplace safety that efficiently evolves with organizational growth. Participants will be able to:

  • Recognize key drivers of a positive safety culture and how they interrelate
  • Assess the safety culture in their own workplace
  • Begin to improve the safety culture in their workplace using the strategies provided in this workshop

Both workshops will be facilitated by Charmaine Mullins-Jaime CRSP, NC, who has over ten years as a safety professional specializing in safety and environmental consulting, auditing, and training. Her safety and environmental management career has included work in the oil and gas, healthcare, aerospace, and defense industries.

The cost for each program is $135. When three or more individuals from the same organization register, a 20 percent discount is available. Lunch is included for those participating in both morning and afternoon sessions.

The workshops will be held in CC Room 176, located in the Arvin Center for Graduate Business Education at 4601 Central Avenue near Columbus Municipal Airport. The university also offers non-credit training delivered in your workplace.
