IUPUC/CBED and Decatur County EcO 15 team up to offer the management development workshop Managing Teams For High Performance

November 7, 2014

Professionals who seek noncredit management development opportunities are invited to register for this half day morning workshop offered by the Center for Business and Economic Development (CBED) at Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus in collaboration with EcO 15 in Decatur County.

An increasing percentage of work is being done in self-managing teams or by individuals collaborating with one another. There is also an increase in cross functional teamwork as well as virtual teams. And of course, teams are now accountable for results and are increasingly being compensated by work-based performance.

MANAGING TEAMS FOR HIGH PERFORMANCE covers many aspects of managing effectively in a team environment, including: a model of effective team functioning, stages of team development and associated issues and actions, tools to increase participation of team members, communication strategies, and tools for planning and expectation setting. Participants will leave this course well-grounded in key frameworks and tools necessary to work effectively within teams. As with all workshops, the final activity includes individual (and team) action planning suitable for next day implementation.

Upon completion of this hand’s on workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the personal and organizational benefits of working in teams, including the attributes of team effectiveness.
  • Link their team’s work to the priorities of the broader organization.
  • Increase team effectiveness by establishing, communicating and reinforcing shared values.
  • Use tools and strategies to set teams up for success, including:
    • Team ground rules // continuous improvement // project team charters
  • Understand the key phases of team development and lead accordingly.
  • Identify opportunities for personal development to support the business imperative for effective team building skills.

Greg Knudson, the director of CBED, will be the facilitator for this workshop. Greg’s background includes 30 years of corporate, C-level management experience within manufacturing and technology industry sectors. Greg has also been an adjunct professor in MBA programs in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana, including IUPUC.

This workshop will be held from 9 a.m. until noon in the Decatur County Schools Administration Building located at 2020 N. Montgomery Road, Greensburg, IN.
