Cindy Felsten, Assistant Director of Development and Alumni Relations at Indiana University-Purdue University (IUPUC), has been awarded the 2015 IUPUI Outstanding Leader Award for newcomer staff.

As part of the annual Women's History Month observance at IUPUI, the Office for Women recognizes and celebrates women faculty and staff who have been outstanding leaders in their department or schools or who have demonstrated significant leadership at the campus, community, national, and/or international level. Felsten was recommended for this award by Kristin Garvey, Ex Director, Indiana Commission for Women, Billie Breaux, former State Senator & former Marion Co Auditor and Gail Harris, Business & Professional Women Organization.

Nominees for the award should exhibit extraordinary effort and achievement in at least one of these areas: Commitment to teaching and/or service to students; Service to IUPUI and its mission; Commitment to serving others in the community; Service as a role model for students, faculty, or staff; Outstanding performance in job or field of endeavor.

“Cindy is a committed professional who selflessly serves others – especially women. She has tirelessly worked to remove barriers hindering women’s participation by increasing awareness to the issues they face and by championing efforts that will have a lasting impact on women throughout the state,” says Kathy Garvey, Executive Director of the Indiana Commission for Women.

“As State Legislation Chair of the Indiana Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Club, INC (INFBPW) she has fought for women’s issues for over 20 years. She also served on the Legislation Committee of Business & Professional Women USA (BPW/USA) and met with many U.S. Congressmen and Senators to insure that laws be enacted for Equal Pay, Title IX, Women’s Right to Choose, The Equal Rights Amendment, Social Security, and many other issues that are important to women,” says Gail Harris of the Business & Professional Women Organization.

“Cindy is a tireless advocate for women and for all people. She has provided a lifetime of service to her community and to her state, always seeking ways to bring about quality changes and to improve lives,” says Billie Breaux, former Indiana State Senator.

Felsten was honored for this accomplishment at the 18th Annual Leadership Reception on Thursday, March 26 in the Campus Center Theater at IUPUI.
