April 27, 2015

The Center for Business and Economic Development (CBED) at Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus is partnering with the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce and Jackson County Bank to host SPARK Columbus, a networking event for entrepreneurs, inventors, small business owners, young professionals, students, educators, and others interested in start-up and new business ventures.

The free event will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 7th at Blairex laboratories – 1600 Brian Drive in Columbus, Ind. A tour of Applied Laboratories (next door) will be offered immediately following the keynote presentation. A cash bar will be available.

According to organizers Greg Knudson, CBED director, and Cindy Frey, chamber president, this SPARK Columbus event provides the best opportunity for entrepreneurs, inventors and small business owners to meet and discuss their ideas for new business creation.

The keynote speaker is Tony Moravec, Founder, President, and CEO of innovative pharmaceutical-based Blairex Laboratories and Applied Laboratories, based in Columbus. Mr. Moravec also owns Zaharakos, one of Columbus’ most attractive and enjoyable restaurants. In addition, Mr. Moravec is the owner of real estate and investment ventures in Columbus. Mr. Moravec defines entrepreneurship.  He will discuss his personal entrepreneurial journey to success across his various business holdings.

“This is our fifth SPARK Columbus event on May 7th, and continues our series of networking opportunities that will bring the entrepreneurial, business and university communities together to meet, share ideas, network, and help each other become successful,” explained Knudson.

Frey said the chamber is working to create a healthy entrepreneurial ecosystem where new ventures can find champions, capital, and a supportive environment that enables them to thrive. “Working alongside the Center for Business and Economic Development, we hope to expand the support available for start-ups and young ventures in our community,” she added.
