May 13, 2015

Dr. Julie Goodspeed-Chadwick authored the book Modernist Women Writers and War, which is now on display in an exhibition from the Alliance Francaise in celebration of the Franco-American Friendship. The exhibit at the Indianapolis Central Library Simon Reading Room will run from May 6 through June 1.

Alliance Francaise is showcasing the activities of Marian University French students and related cultural events including: The Tournees Festival, The Eric Vincent Concert, and Marian students studying in France.

Attendees at a May 6 reception included, among others, guest dignitaries:  Mayor Gregory Ballard, Ms. Diane Thomas, Honorary French Consul and CEO of the International Center, Ms. Jackie Nytes, CEO of the Indianapolis Public Library, Ms. Jane Gehlhausen, Director of International and Cultural Affairs for the City of Indianapolis and Miles Morgan (great-great grandson of financier J. Pierpont Morgan).

In Modernist Women Writers and War, Goodspeed-Chadwick “examines important avant-garde writings by three American women authors and shows that during World Wars I and II a new kind of war literature emerged–one in which feminist investigation of war and trauma effectively counters the paradigmatic war experience long narrated by men.” The book was published by the Louisiana State University Press in 2011.

Dr. Julie Goodspeed-Chadwick is an associate professor of English and director of the Office of Student Research at Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus (IUPUC). Dr. Goodspeed-Chadwick earned a B.A. in English and a B.A. in communication from Marian University, followed by an M.A. in English and a Ph.D. in English from Ball State University.
