Vickie Welsh Huston awarded the Alpha Lambda Delta 2015 bronze award

September 8, 2015

The Alpha Lambda Delta National Council and Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus Chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta presented Vickie Welsh-Huston the 2015 Delta Bronze award for the 17 percent increase in chapter membership that occurred at IUPUC from 2013-14 to 2014-15.

Alpha Lambda Delta, Executive Director, Eileen N. Merberg has this to say, “In today’s challenging economy and campus uncertainty, we understand that our chapters’ advisors are making do with fewer resources, smaller staff, and less release time. Additionally, today’s students are challenged by more opportunities and how to balance their time and financial resources. Despite these hurdles, your chapter has managed to continue to grow–a significant accomplishment for which you and your (Vickie Welsh-Huston) members deserve a hearty congratulations and thanks.”

Dr. George Towers, division head of Liberal Arts said that Welsh-Huston is an outstanding colleague, “All of us at IUPUC are proud of Vickie and the work she has done with Alpha Lambda Delta. Vickie is one of our most dedicated and valuable colleagues. Through her leadership of Alpha Lambda Delta, Vickie has given our first year students encouragement to succeed as well as an opportunity to receive the meaningful recognition they deserve.”

Additionally, Vickie and the chapter’s members were congratulated on ALD’s outstanding campus visibility, effective invitations, and commendable efforts that have gone into growing the chapter and recognizing an increasing number of outstanding college students.

Founded in 1924, Alpha Lambda Delta is an honor society for students in their first year at an institution of higher education. Alpha Lambda Delta’s mission is to encourage superior academic achievement, promote intelligent living and a continued high standard of learning, and assist students in recognizing and developing meaningful goals for their unique roles in society. The IUPUC chapter was installed April 20, 2013 with 28 charter members and five honorary members.

Student membership in Alpha Lambda Delta is based on a minimum cumulative 3.5 grade point average during their first full-time year in college. All coursework must be college-level and count toward a bachelor’s degree.
