Annual Indiana University Business Outlook Panel set for Thursday, Nov. 12 at IUPUC

Top Indiana University experts will deliver their 2016 forecasts for local, state, national, and global economies and financial markets on Thursday, Nov. 12 at Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus (IUPUC).

The forecasts are part of Indiana University’s annual Business Outlook Panel series held each year on IU campuses across the state.

Dr. Frank Wadsworth, head of the Division of Business at IUPUC, invites residents of Southcentral Indiana to attend.  “Owners, managers, and executives of small and large businesses, city and county leaders, directors and board members of non-governmental agencies, and citizens impacted by global and U.S. economic issues are welcomed to join us.”

“The statewide Business Outlook Panel series is one of Indiana University’s most widely anticipated and attended events,” Wadsworth reported.  “Many Hoosiers are interested in the IU expert forecasts for the coming year in the global, U.S., state, and local markets.”

The four panelists, each of whom is recognized for expertise in identifying new and emerging financial trends, will discuss their predictions for the top domestic and international economic issues business and government leaders can expect in next year. They include:

U.S. and Global Outlook
DR. KYLE ANDERSON

Kyle Anderson is a clinical assistant professor of business economics at the Kelley School of Business in Indianapolis.  His research focuses on pricing, auctions, and online markets, and he has published several articles in academic journals.  He has an MBA and Ph.D. from the Kelley School of Business in Bloomington.  In addition to his academic work, he has seven years of experience in the health care industry and the heavy trucking industry.  Kyle is a native of Indianapolis.  He and his wife and daughter reside in Bloomington.

STATE OUTLOOK
DR. JERRY CONOVER

Dr. Jerry Conover directs the Indiana Business Research Center at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business. Jerry has played leading roles in state, regional and national economic development initiatives for more than two decades, bringing university research expertise to bear in advancing regional economies. He guides IBRC initiatives ranging from innovative tools and analysis for economic development throughout the nation, to illuminating pathways through Indiana’s talent pipeline connecting education to in-demand jobs.

Jerry earned doctoral degrees in Psychology and Business Administration at the University of Missouri and his bachelor’s degree at the University of Michigan. Prior to coming to IU, he conducted business research at the University of Arizona and Northern Arizona University, where he was also professor of marketing and director of the MBA Program.

FINANCIAL MARKETS OUTLOOK
DR. CHARLES TRZCINKA
In 2000, Charles Trzcinka, PhD joined the faculty of Indiana University's Kelley School of Business as the James and Virginia Cozad Chair of Finance. A native of Massachusetts, Dr. Trzcinka received his Ph.D. (financial economics) from Purdue University in 1980. His positions have included: the faculties of SUNY-Buffalo, New York University and Notre Dame; Director of the U.S. Commerce Department's MBA program in the People's Republic of China; and Senior Economist with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. He has been a consultant to the Securities and Exchange Commission, Virginia Retirement System, Richards & Tierney, and the New York State Attorney General's Office.

Dr. Trzcinka's research interests are primarily focused on empirical investigations of transactions costs, performance of mutual funds, and the performance of money-management firms. He has published this work in every top journal in financial economics. His monographs and articles dealing with mutual funds and institutional money management have received widespread attention in the national press (e.g. Business Week, New York Times, Washington Post, Money Magazine) and he is the author of the Forbes/CFA Institute 2011 Investment, a well-known guide for individual investors.

LOCAL OUTLOOK
Dr. Ryan Brewer

Dr. Brewer’s work has been highlighted on CNN, CNBC, and Inside Indiana Business with Gerry Dick and he has been pub­lished in the Wall Street Journal, the Indianapolis Business Journal, and the Chronicle of Higher Education in addition to academic literature and journals. A frequent expert witness on financial matters in federal and state courts, Brewer is an assistant professor of finance at IUPUC.

MODERATOR
DR. FRANK WADSWORTH
Dr. Wadsworth joined Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus in August of 2012, where he serves as division head of the Indiana University Division of Business and professor of marketing and international studies. His professional interests include franchising and research on international corruption.

The panel discussion will begin at 8 a.m. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions after the presentations.

Much of the data and work that comprises the annual outlooks is compiled and interpreted by the Indiana Business Research Center (IBRC), which is a unit of the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. The IBRC maintains statistics and other information used by key state and national decision- and policy-makers.
