IUPUC 2016 Excellence in Leadership Initiative speaker series

February 17, 2016

The Excellence in Leadership Initiative (ELI) at Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus is pleased to announce a presentation by Haitian-American photographer Cendino Temé as part of the 2016 series of speakers.

Wednesday, Feb. 24 | 4 p.m., LC Room 1000

The Temé presentation will include an artist address and exhibition of his work titled “No More Blues.” The collection was inspired by the experiences of black youth who participated in the December 2014 peaceful protests held during the Art Basel event in Miami, Florida. Protestors marched against police brutality and particularly the deaths of Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Israel Hernandez, and others.

As a visual artist and photographer, he creates authentically stunning imagery. Temé shares, “The visual arts is often a medium used for social awareness and change. As an artist, I feel like it is my obligation to do as those that came before me. Such as the first Black photographer, Gordon Parks did during the civil rights movement, as will I give voice to the people through my artistry.”

Based out of Miami, FL, Temé is an eclectic photographer has gained national and international recognition. Renowned for his work as a wedding photographer, Temé takes a modern approach that brings an edgy, artistic flair to his images. He thrives off the unique qualities brought to him by each and every wedding he shoots.

The Excellence in Leadership Series events are held in the Columbus Learning Center (LC) Building, is free and open to the public.
