IUPUC thanks local citizens by hosting The Big Event

March 1, 2016

The Office of Student Affairs and the Student Government Association at Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus (IUPUC) will host The Big Event on Saturday, April 2, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Joan McCluskey is the coordinator of leadership and community service at IUPUC. McCluskey shares, “The Big Event began at Texas A&M University in 1982. Student leaders wanted to show their appreciation to their community which had given so much to them. Each year students perform tasks for area residents such as yard clean-up, washing windows and planting flowers. The Big Event is now an annual event at more than 110 schools across the country and has spread to other countries around the world.”

IUPUC students, staff, and faculty will provide similar services to the residents of Columbus. The volunteers will focus on yard clean-up such as raking and mulching, and indoor chores, such as window washing and cleaning.

If you would like the volunteers to come to your home, please contact Joan McCluskey at joanmccl@iupuc.edu or 812.375.7534.
