IU Board of Trustees granted tenure and promotion to three IUPUC faculty members

In April 2016, the Indiana University Board of Trustees announced their approval of the award of promotion to associate professor with tenure to three Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus (IUPUC) faculty members. The evaluation process includes a review of each member’s academic achievements over the course of their career. The promotion with tenure is based upon an achieved results driven approach towards excellence.
 
Dr. Richards, interim vice chancellor and dean of IUPUC, congratulated the faculty members who earned promotions. “It’s wonderful to see continued successes of our faculty year after year,” he said.
 
Dr. Anna Carmon, Director, Communications Studies Program; Assistant Professor, Communications Studies was granted tenure and promoted to associate professor.  Carmon achieved a Bachelor of Arts at Marist College in Advertising and Spanish with a minor in Global Studies; she completed her Master of Arts from Illinois State University in Communication Education, and earned her Doctoral Degree from North Dakota State University in Family and Organizational Communication. Some of her research focused on family business functioning and with IUPUC professor, Dr. Joan Poulsen on ostracism and family communication.
 
Dr. Jennifer Conner-Zachocki, Assistant Professor of Language Education in the Division of Education, was granted tenure and promoted to the associate professor rank. Conner-Zachocki received a Bachelor’s of Science in Spanish from Indiana University; she received a Master of Arts in Teaching, in Spanish from Indiana University, and she earned her Doctoral Degree from Indiana University in Language Education.
 
In the first of three peer-reviewed journal articles published in 2015, Conner-Zachocki and coauthor Mary Beth Hines share the results of a five-year study investigating the experiences of 400 Reading First teachers across the state of Indiana. This article is entitled “Using Practitioner Inquiry Within and Against Large-Scale Educational Reform” and was published in a journal called Journal of Teacher Development.
 
In 2015, Conner-Zachocki had two other articles appear in a special themed edition of Theory into Practice (TIP), a professional tier 1 journal for practitioners. Conner-Zachocki was the guest editor of this edition of TIP along with co-editors Nicholas Husbye and James P. Gee.
 
Dr. Kevin J. Jones, Assistant Professor of Management in the Division of Business was granted tenure and promoted to the associate professor rank. Dr. Jones achieved his Bachelor of Arts in Interpersonal Communication with minors in Education and Business from Western Michigan University; he received a master’s degree in Organizational Communication from the University of Kansas and later achieved a doctorate in Adult Continuing Education from Northern Illinois University. His doctoral emphasis was human resource development with a cognate focused on organizational communication.
 
Dr. Jones’ research interests emerge from his lengthy management and leadership career in telecommunications, business consulting, and healthcare. His research focuses on business ethics, organizational interactions, and management competencies. Dr. Jones has co-authored multiple peer-reviewed articles including publications in the Journal of Business Ethics and the Academy of Management Perspectives journal with noted scholar Dr. Lisa Mainiero.
