Dr. Lawrence Richards completes term as the interim vice chancellor at IUPUC

June 30, 2016
Laurence D. Richards, interim vice chancellor and dean at Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus, says goodbye to the Columbus campus after serving a yearlong appointment.

When asked what Dr. Richards knew before his assignment of IUPUC and Columbus he shares, “Before I arrived at IUPUC, I had heard about the support of the greater Columbus community and its leaders for the IUPUC campus, dating back to its origins. However, what I experienced almost immediately after starting the job on July 1, 2015, far exceeded anything I could have anticipated. The collaborative relationship between IUPUC and the organizations throughout the region with which it interacts is extraordinary. I should make special note of the Community Education Coalition and its leadership in facilitating this collaboration.”

Dr. Richards makes special note of the Community Education Coalition and its leadership in facilitating this collaboration. He says, “The collaboration extends to the higher education institutions that occupy the Columbus Higher Education Park, in addition to IUPUC: namely, Ivy Tech Community College – Columbus and Purdue Polytechnic Institute Columbus; I am most grateful to the leaders of these institutions for their friendship, service and willingness to share ideas and insights. Together, we make for a powerful higher education presence in the south-central region of Indiana and beyond.”

“Of course,” says Dr. Richards, “the delivery of high-quality IUPUC educational products (bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, and certificates) would not be possible without exceptional faculty and staff dedicated to the success of students. It has been my honor to work with them in my interim position throughout the past year.”

Additionally, “Dr. Reinhold Hill begins his appointment as IUPUC Vice Chancellor and Dean on, July 1, 2016. I am sure he will also come to appreciate the people who make up the IUPUC community and the many ways that IUPUC contributes to the region, the state, and the world. I cannot be more proud to be a small part of a campus with such promising potential. I wish to thank everyone for making my experience possible” states Dr. Richards.
