Excellence in Leadership Initiative at IUPUC presents the No-Yes program with Katie Koestner

September 14, 2016

The Excellence in Leadership Initiative at IUPUC presents the national No-Yes program by Katie Koestner, date rape survivor and sexual assault activist. The public is invited to come hear Katie’s personal story about the date that changed the country’s conversation around relationships.

This free event will be held on Tuesday, September 20 at 3:30 p.m. in the Lecture Hall at the Columbus Learning Center.

The No-Yes program provides the right blend of facts, statistics, realism, and thought-provoking challenges around relationships, respect, alcohol, and decision-making. Participants will learn about sexual assault prevention and risk reduction, including ways for individuals to be part of the end to sexual violence in their communities.

Katie is a national expert on student safety and teen relationship culture. She has been a leader in the movement to end sexual violence since she took her own solo stand as the first survivor of date rape to speak out nationally at age eighteen. After appearing on the cover of TIME Magazine on June 3, 1991, Katie worked with HBO to make a documentary film about her story. Subsequently, she has appeared on nearly 50 national television programs and spoken at more than 2000 college and school campuses. She has assisted the United States Department of Education in developing and providing programs to women in high-risk communities. Her testimony on Capitol Hill was instrumental in the passage of federal student safety legislation.

The Excellence in Leadership Initiative was created to bring nationally renowned and engaging speakers to the IUPUC campus to provide students, staff, faculty, and community an opportunity to engage in conversations related to diverse and timely topics.
