Alexandria Paige Galloway is a resident of Indianapolis, Indiana and a 2016 Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus (IUPUC) graduate. She earned her undergraduate degree in sociology from the Division of Liberal Arts.

Excited to begin a career in sociology, Alexandria’s lined-up several perspective jobs opportunities the week following her graduation. On Friday, she e-mailed Aimee Zoeller, director of the sociology program and coordinator of women’s studies minor at IUPUC, with the news that she accepted a position. “I will be working for Dr. Keith March at the IU School of Medicine. The position provides an opportunity to work with Dr. March, Director of the Indiana Center for Vascular Biology and Medicine at Indiana University,” shares Galloway.

She continues in saying, “Dr. March could tell from my resume that I was close with my instructors at IUPUC, which impressed him greatly. During the interview, he asked many questions about IUPUC and communicated his interest in hearing all that I learned as a student. Additionally, he is a medical scientist who highly values social science and finds an understanding of sociology vital to the movement of any scientific research.”

Galloway offers her thanks and gratitude for the encouragement and leadership that she received by her mentor, Zoeller, and the other members of the IUPUC faculty. Galloway says the guidance she received from Zoeller has truly made the difference in her success. “I hope to be a vital part of the Indiana University School of Medicine research community while utilizing my new position to further my education. Graduate school is not off the table, but now I may go in a more medically sociological direction!”
