The Indiana College English Association (ICEA) holds an annual conference in the fall season each year. The ICEA is an association with a designation of promotion towards teaching English in the colleges and universities throughout the state of Indiana. The annual events alternate between public and private institutions of higher education across Indiana.

The 2017 ICEA conference is befittingly titled “The Gift of Words” and will be held on Friday, Oct. 27. Two campuses, IUPUC and Ivy Tech Community College, are hosting this year’s event. Through an organized and collaborative effort, they invited researchers and practitioners from a wide array of academic fields including the arts, theology, philosophy, through rhetoric, etc.

The conferences are intimate and welcoming and give presenters an opportunity to share insights about literature, teaching, and writing. “I have enjoyed attending the ICEA conference because it’s a small group of scholars, so it gives us time to share ideas with each other and really support each other’s writing. It’s a delight to collaborate with Ivy Tech and to host this group,” Dr. Lisa Siefker Bailey, senior lecturer in English at IUPUC.

Matthew Graham is a professor of English at the University of Southern Indiana and is this year’s keynote speaker. Poet and author, Graham will offer “The Poetry of Words: A Reading.”
