The History of the Contest of Scholarship

The Robert G. Traylor Creative Writing Contest and Scholarship began in 2013 thanks to the generosity of IUPUC alumnus Sherry Traylor, in honor of her late father who encouraged to write from a very young age. At IUPUC, Sherry majored in English with a Creative Writing minor and earned several awards, including the 2011 Outstanding English Student and 2010 Best English Essay Award.

Her father, Robert G. Traylor, served as an emergency preparedness officer for a U.S. Army base in Evansville, and was a decorated WWII veteran who spent most of his life educating others. He retired as a lieutenant colonel after 30 years of service.
