IUPUC to Host Breakfast and Panel Discussion on Diversity in Leadership on March 7, 2019

IUPUC’s Office for Women and the Center for Business and Economic Development present Lead by Design: An Inspirational Initiative on Thursday, March 7, 2019 from 7:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. at the Mill Race Center in Columbus, Indiana.  The event includes breakfast, followed by a panel discussion featuring local business and education leaders who will discuss how diversity can fuel economic development in the region.

Sponsored by Innovate Indiana, along with several community businesses and organizations, this is the first in what IUPUC hopes will be an annual event to bring together the community to discuss economic and educational topics that affect the region. “We want to fulfill our promise to educate and enlighten not only the students who attend classes at IUPUC, but also the community as a whole,” said Melissa Fairbanks, director of the Center for Business and Economic Development at IUPUC.  

The panelists for the discussion include:

  • Julie Abedian, MHA – Vice President, Community Partnerships & Corporate Responsibility, Columbus Regional Hospital
  • Ryan Brewer, Ph.D. – Associate Director of Finance; MBA Director, IUPUC
  • Julie Goodspeed-Chadwick, Ph.D. – Professor of English; Affiliate Faculty in Women’s Gender, and Sexuality Studies; Director of the Office of Student Research, IUPUC
  • Chatney Gelfius, B.A. – Independent Mary Kay Senior Sales Director
  • Kevin Jones, Ed.D. – Associate Professor of Management, IUPUC
  • Hanna Omar, MBA – Member, Columbus Board of Zoning Appeals; Commercial Banking, JP Morgan Chase Bank

The moderator for the event is Nicole Pence Becker, owner of Pence Media Group. In addition,

Mayor Jim Lienhoop will be in attendance, proclaiming March 7 “Diversity in Leadership Day.”
