IUPUC’s Division of Education has been awarded a grant from the Indiana University Women's Philanthropy Leadership Council that will support study abroad for 15 students to learn about the philosophies and pedagogies of Italy's educational system. Students can apply for the scholarship funds via IU’s iAbroad system starting August 27, 2019.

In order to participate in the study abroad trip (which takes place from March 15-21, 2020, during spring break), students must enroll in one of three course options for the Spring 2020 semester. The coursework examines early and elementary education in Italy in order to more deeply understand critical concepts in education relevant to teaching in the U.S. and globally. It is particularly suited for, but not limited to, Education, Sociology, and Communications disciplines. The courses include:

  • EDUC-E 201: Multicultural and Global Awareness
  • EDUC-F 401: Special Topics in Education.
  • EDUC-W 505: Special Topics in Education (for graduate students).

“We are very grateful to receive this grant which provides funding that will defray the cost for so many students,” said Dr. Jennifer Conner, Head of the Division of Education at IUPUC. “It’s an experience of a lifetime for many of these students, and provides an opportunity for them to immerse themselves in another culture while they learn.”

Program Eligibility

All applicants must meet IUPUC’s minimum standard eligibility requirements. Additional requirements for this program include:
