Maggie Evans has been named IUPUC Employee of the Quarter for Q2, 2020. She currently serves as an academic advisor and an instructor in the Division of Liberal Arts.

Maggie started her journey at IUPUC in 2012, but not as an academic advisor. She was hired at the Oasis Café while she was an undergraduate student working towards her psychology degree. During her time at the cafe, she came to love the small campus and the close-knit community among students and staff. In 2016, she was hired as an academic advisor in Liberal Arts and has stayed for the same reasons she loved the campus as a student worker.

"From her first day as the Division of Liberal Arts’ academic advisor back in 2016, Maggie has done a wonderful job. She is an outstanding advisor and instructor. She cares deeply about her students and their success. In return, her students trust her and love having her as their advisor,” said Dr. George Towers, head of the Division of Liberal Arts.

Maggie has considered IUPUC to be a second home ever since her first week on campus, and being recognized for her hard work and dedication to her students by the campus community means a lot to Maggie. “Being nominated Employee of the Quarter feels very encouraging. To me, it means that someone has recognized that I am working to branch out of my comfort zone and take on new responsibilities that will contribute to my growth not just as an IUPUC employee, but as an individual as well. It is nice to be recognized for your efforts!”
During her time as a student at IUPUC, Maggie made the Dean’s List multiple times. She also earned the Excellence in Leadership Initiative certificate, the Outstanding Student in Psychology award, and was a member of Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, Maggie went on to earn a master’s degree in student affairs and higher Education from Indiana State University.

Maggie meets with new and current students to plan their schedules and discuss requirements for majors and minors. In addition to those tasks, Maggie also teaches the first year-seminar class for the Division of Liberal Arts. According to Maggie, “Every day can bring a new experience.”

When she is not working, Maggie spends time with family, friends, and her adorable dog. She also loves planting flowers, kayaking, going out to eat, and spending time outside.
When asked how he felt about Maggie being named Employee of the Quarter, Dr. Towers said, “Maggie has built excellent relationships with staff and faculty. She makes IUPUC a better place for all of us. We are lucky to work with her and it is great to see her receive this award."
