Vice Chancellor’s Statement on the 2020-2021 Academic Calendar

As you are probably aware, IU President Michael McRobbie recently announced the outline for the 2020-2021 academic calendar with the key message that we “plan to welcome students back to all our campuses and instruction will be a blend of in-person and online.”

We will soon be providing more details regarding IUPUC’s plans for the specific types of instruction that will occur in the fall. Rest assured we are considering the safety of our students, faculty, and staff as well as the best practices in teaching and learning to ensure that students receive the educational experience they deserve while maintaining social distancing guidelines.

The fall semester will begin as planned on August 24 with a combination of blended and online classes through November 22, when the campus will break for Thanksgiving until November 30, at which time all classes will be online for the remainder of the semester. The spring semester will begin on January 19, 2021 with online classes only until February 8, when we will resume blended instruction through the end of the semester. There will be no Fall or Spring breaks.

In addition, we are adding “Winter Sessions,” which will overlap the fall and spring semesters and will provide students the opportunity to earn additional credit hours. All Winter Session classes will be held online.

Information about the 2020-2021 Academic Year will continue to be updated at fall2020.iu.edu. We also ask that you watch for emails from IUPUC with information and updates.

Although I cannot predict the effects of the coronavirus this fall, I am confident that the plans we are putting in place will provide the very best educational opportunity for our students given the existing circumstances, and that we will adapt as needed to ensure that the highest quality of instruction continues.

Stay safe. Be on the lookout for further messages, and I look forward to seeing you in the fall.

Sincerely,

Reinhold Hill
Vice Chancellor & Dean
