Dr. Kate Wills, Professor of English and founding Director of the English program at IUPUC, recently had two of her poems published as part of the INverse Poetry Archive. The archive, which was created in 2019 by Indiana Poet Laureate Adrian Matejka in conjunction with the Indiana Humanities and the Indiana Arts Commission, celebrates and preserves the diverse range of Indiana poetry for future generations of Indiana writers and readers. 

 

“Dr. Katherine Wills’ poems speak to her excellence,” said Dr. George Towers, Head of the Division of Liberal Arts at IUPUC. “Her ability to inspire her students has been recognized with several teaching awards. She also shares her passion with our community through poetry readings and writing workshops.”

 

Dr. Wills, publishing under the nom de plume Katerina Tsiopos, has an array of poetry publications including the 2013 chapbook Our Slow Migration North. INverse selected two poems which represent the landscape and people of Indiana:

 

“Quarry Scuba: Indiana Dive Partners” takes the reader into the depths of an abandoned quarry in Indiana.

 

“Blessing of the Bikes: Bean Blossom Boogie” captures the sights, sounds, and spirituality of a Midwest biker festival.

 

“I am so grateful that INverse Poetry Archive selected two of my poems to celebrate and preserve Indiana’s culturally diverse and rich heritage through creative writing. Quarry scuba and motorcycling are just two activities that Hoosiers use to commune with nature,” said Dr.  Wills. “In these poems, I wanted to draw attention to the fun of playing in nature.”   

 

Dr. Wills is currently writing her third chapbook that features Eco-poetry and human/animal relationships.
