IUPUC will be one of 10 statewide hosts for the 2022 Indiana State Contest sponsored by the Indiana Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM). The contest is on Saturday, April 23, to be held in the Columbus Learning Center.
Elementary school, middle school, and high school students from across the region will have the opportunity to compete in one of five exam categories including Pre-Algebra, Algebra First Course/Integrated Math I, Geometry/Integrated Math II, Algebra Second Course/Integrated Math III, and Comprehensive. Awards will be presented to top scorers for each category both at the local and state level.
Leigh Britt, Lecturer in Mathematics at IUPUC and board member of ICTM, is the coordinator of the statewide event as well as the local site coordinator. “Not only is this a great opportunity for students to challenge themselves, but also to meet other STEM-minded students who are drawn to math,” said Britt. “In addition, this might be the first time that some of these students have set foot on a college campus, so we encourage them to take time to look around, ask questions, and soak in the environment.”
IUPUC Professor, Rodney Lynch, Ph.D. is again the exam writer for the Comprehensive exam this year, having written it in 2019. Lynch also wrote the Geometry exam in 2017 and 2018.
