Two IUPUC Professors Receive Teaching Honors

April 22, 2022

IUPUC professors Julie Goodspeed-Chadwick and Crystal Walcott were each recognized this spring for their teaching contributions to Indiana University.

Julie Goodspeed-Chadwick, Chancellor’s Professor of English in the Department of English in the Division of Liberal Arts at IUPUC, and Director of the Office of Student Research, was awarded the Frederic Bachman Lieber Memorial Award for distinguished teaching. The award, which is the oldest teaching award at IU, is given to faculty members who have shown dedication to helping their students and are also masters of their subject. These honorees have shown dedication to helping their students reach and expand. Honorees are also masters of their subject, advancing their field and how it is taught.

“Given that my teaching is grounded in feminist-equity pedagogy, the award means a lot to me in its support and validation of efforts and contributions in that vein. I am grateful to my students, colleagues, and IU and humbled to have work I care so much about be recognized in this way,” said Goodspeed-Chadwick.

Crystal Walcott, Professor, Mathematics Education, and Division Head for Education, was awarded the IUPUI Chancellor’s Award For Excellence In Teaching, which recognizes faculty who create the opportunities and atmosphere for our students to succeed. Those nominated for this award best exemplify the high standards of teaching expected at IUPUI and have earned respect and admiration from colleagues and students, alike, for the gift of instilling in students a love of learning and respect for knowledge.

“I am overjoyed to have been selected for this award. I am honored to be recognized for my teaching given all of the talented faculty on the IUPUC and IUPUI campuses,” said Walcott.

Reinhold Hill, Vice Chancellor and Dean at IUPUC is happy to see the IUPUC faculty get the recognition they deserve. “I continue to be inspired by the dedication and excellence of our faculty, and I think it’s wonderful that Indiana University also recognizes the great work being accomplished on our campus. Julie and Crystal are integral parts of IUPUC and are very deserving of the honors they received.”
