The inaugural Crimson Pride baseball and softball teams enjoyed a moment in the spotlight at the first-ever IUPUC Athletics "Media Day" January 16, conducted by the Office of Communications and Marketing.

More than 50 coaches and players had professional headshots and casual poses taken, totaling about 5,000 photos. In addition, all players and coaches had professional video footage recorded, as each participant was briefly interviewed, generating more than 6 hours of content to be featured in various upcoming promotional projects.

“With this being the first year, we had a compressed schedule to get everything done before the season starts, so we had to get both the baseball and softball teams done in a single day,” said Jay Lesandrini, Director of Communications and Marketing at IUPUC, whose department recently assumed responsibility for athletics marketing. His team includes Dakota Myrick, Assistant Program Director, and part-time staffers Harvey Scruggs, Brand Marketing Specialist, and Brooke Hall, Digital Marketing Specialist.

Lesandrini noted that while the event was a success, there was a bit of a learning curve, too. “There are definitely some things we will do differently moving forward, but thanks to the patience of the players and coaches, we were able to get some great photos and video that we can use throughout the season.”

He said that some of the images taken on Media Day are already being displayed on the Athletics website, social media, and the just-published team rosters for baseball and softball.

Faculty, staff and students should also watch for the marketing team on campus in February, as they will be promoting the baseball and softball home openers with fun swag giveaways.

The softball team will host Calumet College of St. Joseph for their home opener at Ceraland Park beginning at 12 noon on Friday February 24.

The baseball team will host Cleary College (Michigan) on Saturday March 4 at 1 p.m. The site for that game is yet to be determined depending upon the availability of the Crimson Pride’s new field at Ceraland Park.
