ICTM state math contest honors 28 local students

On April 22, 2023, students from Columbus and surrounding communities participated in the Indiana State Math Contest at IUPUC (a university partnership with Indiana Council of Teachers of Mathematics). Students competed in five exam categories, based on their current course enrollment, and 28 were recognized for placing first, second, third, or in the top 25 percent in each category.

IUPUC was one of 9 statewide hosts for the 2023 Indiana State Contest sponsored by ICTM. Parents/legal guardians and teachers were able to register their public or private school elementary, middle, or high school students.

Of the 76 students who took the test at IUPUC, the top finishers and their schools include:

Pre-Algebra

  • Advay Anup, Southside Elementary School—1st place
  • Kevin Chen, Parkside Elementary School—2nd place
  • Eric Biehl, Jennings County Middle School (North Vernon, Ind.)—2nd place

  • Vaishnavi Pinna, Southside Elementary School—3rd place
  • Anand Neela, Parkside Elementary School—Top 25% Scholar
  • Aadhav Meganathan, Central Middle School—Top 25% Scholar
  • Alicia Yang, Southside Elementary School—Top 25% Scholar
  • Grace Lodhi, Parkside Elementary School—Top 25% Scholar

Comprehensive

  • Sreepadaarchana Munjuluri, Columbus North High School—2nd place
  • Ava Rigsby, Seven Oaks Classical School (Ellettsville, Ind.) —3rd place
  • Sahasra Chalumuri, Columbus North High School—3rd place
  • Anubhav Majumdar, Center Grove High School (Greenwood, Ind.)—3rd place

Statewide results will be announed in the coming weeks. Students who advance to the state level wil be invited ot the ICTM State Awards Ceremony on June 9 at the Indiana State House in Indianapolis.
