ICTM recognizes top finishers in state math contest

The Indiana Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) will honor 34 students from across the state on June 9 at the Indiana State House in Indianapolis, including eight who attained perfect scores on the Indiana State Math Contest.

 On April 22, 449 students participated in the Indiana State Math Contest at nine host sites throughout Indiana. Parents/legal guardians and teachers were able to register their public or private school elementary, middle, or high school students. Students competed in five exam categories, based on their current course enrollment.

  • Pre-Algebra: There were 146 competitors with a mean score of 23.8/40. Top 5% scholars earned a minimum of 38/40.
  • Algebra I: There were 126 competitors with a mean score of 25.1/40. Six students tied for first place with a perfect score. Top 5% scholars earned a minimum of 39/40.
  • Geometry: There were 91 competitors with a mean score of 17/32. Top 5% scholars earned a minimum of 28/32.
  • Algebra II: There were 35 competitors with a mean score of 17.9/32. Top 5% scholars earned a minimum of 29/32.
  • Comprehensive: There were 51 competitors with a mean score of 20.7/36. Top 5% scholars earned a minimum of 35/36.

State plaques will be awarded to the top 3 finishers (or more in the event of a tie). Scholar medals will be awarded to students who finish in the Top 5% by exam category. Students are notified of their state-qualifying status via their math teacher (listed on their registration). Those who can’t attend the ceremony at the Indiana State House will be mailed their award, via their teacher.
